LEWISTON — On Saturday, Aug. 12, Scott D. Berryment joined his parents, Jean “Louise (Fisken) and Raymond Berryment, in the life hereafter.
He was born on Nov. 10, 1959, in Mountain Home, Idaho, where his father was stationed with the U.S. Air Force. He grew up in Germany, Guam and Korea. In the late 1970s, his family moved to Oxford County, where his father had been born and raised. When he was a child, Scott was diagnosed with Becker muscular dystrophy.
Scott married Lynda Duguay in 1981. They soon had two children, Chris and Diana, and bought a home in Dixfield, where they continued to live for over 30 years.
In the early 1980s, Scott supported his young family working at the Bass Shoe Co. factory in Rumford. Knowing that he could not support his family with physical labor forever, he obtained an electrical drafting degree from Central Maine Vocational and Technical Institute (now Central Maine Community College).
Scott worked as an electrical drafter for two decades. His last employer, Enterprise Engineering, worked with him so he could continue to be a productive member of society even after he could no longer travel to their office every day and he continued to work for from home for many years.
Scott’s family grew with the birth of a third child, Cody, in 1994.
All three of Scott’s children graduated from Dirigo High School in Dixfield. He saw his first child graduate college and law school. His youngest child enrolled in college in 2014 and by Aug. 12, 2017, Scott knew that Cody was well on his way to a life that would make him proud.
On Feb. 14, 2013, Scott saw his oldest son become a father with the birth of his first grandchild, Owen Scott Berryment. During Scott’s life, Owen spent almost every Friday with Scott and Lynda.
Scott touched everyone who met him with his strength of spirit and his humble determination in the face of adversity. He politely refused pity and always acknowledged that there were people who had been dealt a worse lot in life than him.
