NORWAY — Assessor Natalie Andrews told selectmen Thursday evening that the tax rate for the 2017-18 fiscal year would increase from $16.50, to $17.20 per $1,000 of valuation.
Andrews said the increase is because of a considerable increase in the School Administrative District 17 budget, an increase in the state’s Homestead Exemption from $15,000 to $20,000, and a loss of personal property.
She said New Balance had an audit done, and after looking at the company’s itemizations, she discovered the town would receive $2 million less.
“That’s a significant amount,” Andrews added.
She said the municipal budget was flat compared to the previous year, and that “without the SAD 17 budget and the loss of personal property, we’ve remained consistent with where we were last year.”
In other business, selectmen voted to table appointing Daniel Brown as a full-time police officer until he and Police Chief Rob Federico can attend a selectmen meeting.
