According to the Sun Journal, residents of Auburn and property owners approved the city’s budget with the understanding that any money the Auburn School Department received from the state would be used to lower property taxes. In studying my property tax bill, the only reduction applied was the $20,000 Homestead exemption. There is no information about the amount of the state’s contribution to education.
That figure should be public knowledge.
It is a cover-up? Are the Auburn School Department and the city administration conspiring to fleece the struggling property taxpaying homesteaders?
Honestly, why not join the two dysfunctional cities? People should demand an independent audit. A list of checks that a simple person could understand should be made public, with how much and what for and balances.
