MEXICO — The end of summer brings an end to Mexico Free Public Library’s summer reading program, but that doesn’t mean the fun will stop — Director Heather Rogers already has a new event in place.
Those who participated in the summer reading program were invited to a celebration on Saturday, which doubled as the kick off for the Taste the World program, where local children can try food from around the world, expanding their minds — and their palates.
Colombian snacks were on the menu, including rizadas, mayonnaise-flavored potato chips; tocinetas, similar to pork skins; Piazza, a light wafer with cream filling; and cassava strips, chips made from the yucca root.
“Most of (the food) went over really well,” Rogers said.
Most of it.
“The mayo chips were really weird,” said her 12-year-old daughter, Kira Rogers.
