BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (AP) — Kevin Kaczmarski had a walk-off double with one out in the eighth inning, as the Binghamton Rumble Ponies topped the Portland Sea Dogs 1-0 in the first game of a doubleheader on Sunday.
Luis Guillorme scored the game-winning run after he reached base on a walk.
Kaczmarski reached base three times in the win.
Tim Peterson (5-3) got the win with two innings of scoreless, one-hit relief while Ty Buttrey (1-4) took the loss in the Eastern League game.
The Sea Dogs were blanked for the 12th time this season, while the Rumble Ponies’ staff recorded their 18th shutout of the year.
Binghamton 4, Portland 3
Kevin Taylor hit a walk-off single with two outs in the seventh inning, as the Binghamton Rumble Ponies beat the Portland Sea Dogs 4-3 on Sunday. With the victory, the Rumble Ponies swept the four-game series.
Matt Oberste scored the game-winning run after he hit an RBI single and advanced to second on a groundout.
The single by Taylor capped an improbable comeback for the Rumble Ponies, who scored three runs in the inning for the win. Oberste and David Thompson both drove in runs earlier in the inning to help set the stage for the game-winning score.
The Rumble Ponies cut the deficit to 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth when Patrick Mazeika hit an RBI single, driving in Kevin Kaczmarski.
Starter Corey Oswalt (10-5) got the win while Bobby Poyner (0-1) took the loss in relief in the Eastern League game.
Jeremy Barfield homered and singled, driving home three runs for the Sea Dogs.
With the win, Binghamton improved to 10-5 against Portland this season.
