LEWISTON — A man demanding cigarettes threatened a clerk at a Main Street Big Apple store on Sunday.
Police Lt. David St. Pierre said the robbery that occurred at 3:50 a.m. at the store at 248 Main St. is being investigated by the criminal investigation division at the police department.
“Nobody was injured,” St. Pierre said. No weapon was shown, he said.
The unidentified man asked for a carton of cigarettes and left without paying, St. Pierre said. Because the clerk was threatened verbally, the theft is being investigated as a robbery.
Police are working to secure store surveillance video of the incident. No suspects have been identified.
The perpetrator was described as a white male, 5 feet, 8 inches tall, sporting a shaggy beard and wearing a black sweatshirt.
The cigarettes are valued at $71.92.
