AUGUSTA — Gov. Paul LePage appointed a new press secretary Tuesday.
Julie Rabinowitz, the Maine Labor Department’s director of policy, operations and communication, will start in the new role on Sept. 5.
“Julie has worked closely with our communications team and our policy advisers in her role at the Labor Department, and I am looking forward to her continued service as my press secretary,” LePage said in a prepared statement.
Rabinowitz takes the place of Adrienne Bennett, who stepped down this summer after serving in the role for LePage since 2011.
Before joining the governor’s administration, Rabinowitz taught writing and communication, including courses at Bates and Colby colleges and the University of Southern Maine.
She has also held management and executive positions in government and nonprofit organizations in New York, North Carolina and Maine.
A graduate of Marist College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., where she majored in both history and communications, Rabinowitz also has a master’s degree in communications studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
She lives in Falmouth with her husband and two children.
