RUMFORD — Will Sorensen registered a hat trick on Friday as Mountain Valley hustled to a 5-1 boys’ soccer victory over Spruce Mountain.
Espen Lamberg chipped in for the Falcons (2-0) with two goals to complete the scoring. Brady Walp scored the Phoenix’s (0-2) lone goal on a penalty kick.
Jacob Rainey made three saves for Mountain Valley, while Andrew Shaw turned aside 12 shots between the posts for Spruce Mountain.
Telstar 5, Wiscasset 1
BETHEL — Telstar jumped out to a three-goal advantage in the first half and raced away to a 5-1 win over Wiscasset in boys’ soccer action Friday.
Tristen Lilly led the Rebels with two goals, while Austin Westliegh, Orion Fournier and Blake Rothwell also tallied to complete the scoring. Matt Chapman tallied the lone goal for Wiscasset.
Boston Ludden made five saves for Telstar, while Sam Strozier deflected 15 shots between the posts for Wiscasset.
Lisbon 1, Mt. Abram 1, tie
SALEM — Lisbon held off a furious attack in the second half and overtime to salvage a 1-1 boys’ soccer tie against Mt. Abram on Friday.
Noah Austin tallied for the Greyhounds (1-0-1) at the 32:35 mark thanks to a miscommunication in Mt. Abram’s defense. Ben Butterfield scored for the Roadrunners (0-1-1) 9:55 into the second half.
Veteran keeper Jonah Sautter made 15 saves for Lisbon, while Nate Luce and Jack Deming combined to record two saves for Mt. Abram.
Monmouth 15, Dirigo 1
DIXFIELD — Senior striker Avery Pomerleau was dominant on offense with six goals as Monmouth stampeded to a 15-1 victory over Dirigo in boys’ soccer action Friday afternoon.
The 2016 region-champion Mustangs (2-0) were relentless on offense as the veterans kept making quick work of moving the ball towards the opposing net.
Nate Ashton contributed three goals for Monmouth.
The Cougars (0-2) spoiled the shutout with 15:44 remaining in regulation when senior right wing Wesley Libby netted the lone Dirigo goal.
Goalie Derek Ducharme made 12 saves for Dirigo, while goalie Bradley Neal earned the win in net with five stops for Monmouth.
Winthrop 5, Oak Hill 0
WINTHROP — Rowan Goebel-Bain planted three goals as Winthrop dropped Oak Hill in its home-opener 5-0 in boys’ soccer action Friday afternoon.
The Ramblers (1-0) led 2-0 at the half. Jared McLaughlin assisted on four goals for Winthrop.
Goalie Brady Bang made 11 saves for the Raiders (0-2), while Ben Boulay fended off six shots to earn the win in net for Winthrop.
Buckfield 8, Valley 2
BINGHAM — Junior striker Noah Wiley registered three goals and an assist to pace Buckfield to an 8-2 victory over Valley in boys’ soccer action Friday afternoon.
Ethan Jackson assisted early, recording two goals and two assists as the Bucks (2-0) took a 6-1 halftime lead. Kaleb Harvey contributed a pair of goals for Buckfield.
Goalie Dillon Beane made 16 saves for the Cavaliers (0-2), while Rick Kraske guarded against two shots to earn the win in net for Buckfield.

York 4, Poland 1
YORK — Sydney Bouchard netted a pair of goals Friday as York overpowered Poland 4-1 in an early season field hockey tilt.
Jessica Smith contributed a goal and two assists for the Wildcats, while Natalie Panteleos also tallied to complete the scoring. Desiree Menard converted a pass from Brianna Doucette to tally for the Knights.
Julianna Kiklis and Julia Carr combined to make four saves for York, while Ashton Sturtevant deflected 12 shots for Poland.
Oak Hill 2, Lisbon 1, 2 OT
WALES — Maegan Sheehy converted a pass from Zoe Buteau with one minute left in the second overtime to give Oak Hill a 2-1 field hockey win over Lisbon on Friday.
After a scoreless first half, Buteau gave the Raiders (3-2) a 1-0 advantage with an assist from Lexi Faucher. The Greyhounds answered when Sadie Hardit tallied with a nice feed from Mallory Fairbanks.
Mackenzie Thibeault made 15 saves for Oak Hill, while Becky Budeshum turned aside 19 shots for Lisbon.
Winthrop 2, Boothbay 0
BOOTHBAY — Senior Kinli Dibiase-Patenaude scored 10 minutes into the contest as Winthrop dispatched Boothbay 2-0 in field hockey action Friday afternoon.
The Ramblers (4-0) added an insurance goal with 6:47 remaining on a relay from Bre Feeney to Nora Conrad.
Goalie Emily Amaral made eight saves for the Seahawks (2-1), while goalie Aiva Agri turned away seven shots to earn the win in net for Winthrop.
Brunswick 2, Lewiston 0
LEWISTON — Junior Shea Sullivan and senior Anna Rider traded places with a goal and an assist each in the second half as Brunswick conquered Lewiston, 2-0, in field hockey action Friday afternoon.
The Blue Devils outshot the Dragons 10-9 in the contest, but came away without a single tally.
Lewiston made seven saves in net, while Brunswick repelled 10 in the winning effort.
Dirigo 6, Telstar 1
BETHEL — Kailey Hackett notched a hat trick as Dirigo cruised to a 6-1 victory over Telstar in field hockey action Friday afternoon.
The Cougars (1-3) had a strong offensive drive, scoring three goals in each half.
Brooklyn Kimball scored the lone Rebel (0-4) goal in the first half.
Goalie Perry Morton made 17 saves for Telstar, while Morgan Morrow only need to back one to earn the win in net for Dirigo.
Girls’ soccer
Brunswick 2, Lewiston 0
LEWISTON — A single goal in each half was more than adequate for Brunswick to secure a 2-0 victory over Lewiston in a girls’ soccer matchup Friday.
Marley Groat and Lea Scrapchansky both tallied for the Dragons.
Beth Labbe made three saves to preserve the shutout, while Gemma Landry turned aside nine shots for the Blue Devils.
Mt. Ararat 3, Edward Little 3, tie
TOPSHAM — Lydia Celani led a group of three players to score goals for Edward Little on Friday as they managed to salvage a 3-3 tie against Mt. Ararat in a game that went two overtime periods.
Piper Norcross and Caroline Hammond also tallied for the Red Eddies (1-1-1) in the drawn-out contest. Alexa Gurney led the Eagles (1-0-1) with two goals, while Emma Hawk also tallied.
Taylor Depot made eight saves for Edward Little, while Zoe Stilphen deflected 18 shots for Mt. Ararat.
Buckfield 3, Valley 0
BINGHAM — Rachel Warren led a group of three players to record goals Friday afternoon as Buckfield rolled to a 3-0 early season girls’ soccer win over Valley.
Kylie Carrier and Hannah Shields also tallied for the Bucks (1-0) to complete the scoring.
Molly Bourget and Cara Merrill combined to record two saves for Buckfield, while Kendra Sweet turned back 15 shots between the posts for Valley (0-2).
Gray-New Gloucester 2, Lake Region 1
NAPLES — Alexa Thayer netted a pair of goals to lead Gray-New Gloucester to a 2-1 victory over Lake Region in girls’ soccer action Friday afternoon.
The Lakers (0-2) scored first when Neva Leavitt found the back of the cage in the first half to take a 1-0 halftime lead.
Thayer responded with two second-half goals to put the Patriots (1-2) on top.
Goalie Madison Rock made 14 saves for Lake Region, while goalie Chelsea Davis defended four to earn the win in net for Gray-New Gloucester.
