AUBURN — David L. Tilley, 88 passed away on Sunday, Sept. 17, at The Hospice House in Auburn.
David was born Jan. 28, 1929 in Lewiston to Earle and Leon Tilley. David was raised in Bolsters Mills and Norway, educated at Norway schools graduating from Norway High School in 1947.
David entered the Navy in 1947 and received an Honorable Discharge in 1950. David’s testing in the Navy reflected an aptitude in numbers where he received training as a Computer Programmer.
David’s career path as a Computer Programmer directed him to Abbott’s Laboratories, UNUM Insurance, Sanborn’s Motor Express and Wilner Wood Products, retiring in 1994.
David met his wife, Elizabeth, while employees at Abbott’s Laboratories. David and Elizabeth were married in 1951, and celebrated 55years of marriage.
They had four children, Steven, Christine, Duane and Paul.
David participated in many civic organizations. He served as selectman for the Town of Norway, a Norway Volunteer Firefighter, a member of the Stone-Smart American Legion Post 82 of Norway, and a member of the Barbershop Quartet.
David and Elizabeth enjoyed many years of boating at local lakes, camping in the local area and extensive traveling in their recreational vehicle.
David is predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth.
He is survived by two brothers, Wayne Tilley and Barry Tilley; his four children, Steven Tilley and his wife, Patricia, Chris Yates and her husband, Dennis, Duane Tilley and Paul Tilley; David is also survived by Grandchildren, Tracey Chase, Jeremy Daniels and wife, Bridgett, Erin Cheever and husband, Nate, Alison Whitehead, and Stephanie Tilley; Great Grandchildren, Colin Chase, Cassadi Chase, Hailey Mae Cheever, and Braydon Whitehead.
