Hurricane Jose has petered out and is now a tropical storm that’s causing high surf on the New England coast.

A tropical storm warning was in effect Thursday for Cape Cod and ocean waters off southern New England as the remnants of the hurricane passed offshore.

Tropical Storm Jose is approaching Hampton Beach in New Hampshire and Camp Ellis in Maine.

The National Weather Service has issued a High Surf Advisory until 8 p.m. Wednesday for the entire Maine and New Hampshire coast.

Jose has been causing some inconveniences for several days in New England. Small craft advisories have kept boats in port, and some ferries have been canceled.

High surf was reported across the region.

Beachgoers were warned of dangerous rip currents, and Maine’s Acadia National Park warned visitors to keep an eye out for high surf and dangerous waves.

Information from WGME was used in this report.
