VINALHAVEN — Buckfield made the long trip to Vinalhaven worthwhile this weekend. Ethan Jackson led the scoring for the Bucks in the first game between the teams with three goals and three assists as Buckfield coasted to a 9-3 victory on Friday. Dylan Harvey also netted three goals for the Bucks (6-1) in that contest.

MJ Augusto led the Vikings (1-3) with two goals.

Goalie Joe Hopkins made 19 saves for Vinalhaven, while goalie Rick Kraske turned away 14 to earn the win n net for Buckfield.

In Saturday’s contest, Victor Verrill netted two goals and six other players notched one apiece as Buckfield sailed to an 8-1 win over Vinalhaven.

Jackson added one goal and assisted on four others for the Bucks (7-1).

Henry Noyes scored the lone Vikings’ (1-4) goal on a penalty kick.

Hopkins stopped 15 shots for Vinalhaven, while Kraske (4)  and Zack Grover (3) combined for seven saves in the winning effort.

York 2, Gray-New Gloucester 0

GRAY — Quenton Convery and Nicholas Rainforth scored goals in each half as York dismissed Gray-New Gloucester 2-0 in boys’ soccer action Saturday afternoon.

The Wildcats (6-1) outshot the Patriots (3-3) by a margin of 11-1. Alex Nickerson assisted on one of York’s two goals.

Goalie Brannon Gilbert made nine saves for Gray-New Gloucester, while goalie Daniel Fountain only needed to repel one to earn the win in net for York.

Richmond 4, Rangeley 0

RANGELEY —  Matthew Raines scored a hat trick as Richmond sank Rangeley 4-0 in boys’ soccer action Saturday afternoon.

The Bobcats (5-2) led 1-0 at the half. Dustin Simmons rounded out the scoring for Richmond.

Goalie Hunter Lowell made 12 saves for the Lakers (1-5), while goalie Andrew Goodall prevented three to earn the win in net for Richmond.

Girls’ soccer

Gray-New Glocuester 2, York 2

YORK — Gray-New Gloucester and York played to a 2-2 tie in girls’ soccer action Saturday afternoon.

The visiting Patriots (3-4-1) took a 1-0 lead at the midpoint. Bri Jordan and Jaley martin scored goals in each half for Gray-New Gloucester.

The Wildcats (3-3-1) were strong on offense, outshooting their opponent 22-5. But, failed to capitalize in any significant manner.

Richmond 0, Rangeley 0 (2OT)

RANGELEY — Richmond outshot Rangeley 17-7, but found itself in a 0-0 deadlock after double overtime in girls’ soccer action Saturday afternoon.

Goalie Sydney Royce made 15 saves for the Lakers (3-1-2), while goalie Sydney Tilton stopped three for the Bobcats (4-3).

READFIELD — Leavitt and Maranacook played two overtimes, but couldn’t break a 1-1 tie in girls’ soccer action Saturday afternoon.

Maranacook’s Evelyn St.Germain got the Black Bears on the board early in teh first as she tracked down a loose ball in the box.

The Hornets got its equalizer when Emily Swan converted on a break away off a Leah Maheux pass.

Goalie Skyeler Webb made 12 saves for Maranacook, while goalie Shelby Varney had 10 saves for Leavitt.

Freeport 5, Poland 0

POLAND — Abbi King paced Freeport with a a goal and an assist as the Falcons defeated Poland 5-0 in a WMC girls’ soccer match.

Catriona Gould, Allie Goodman, Tia Peterson and Taylor Rinaldi each had a goal in the victory.

Carly Intraversato made five saves for the Falcons (5-2) while Sydney Huson stopped 15 shots for the Knights (1-5-1).

Field hockey

Poland 5, Cape Elizabeth 0

CAPE ELIZABETH — Desiree Menard and Bri Doucette caged a pair of goals each as Poland thwarted Cape Elizabeth 5-0 in field hockey action Saturday afternoon.

Hwida Nawass assisted on three of the Knights’ goals.

Poland blanked the Capers in shots on goal with 11 markers. Cape Elizabeth had a 3-2 margin in corners.

Women’s soccer

Bates 1, Wesleyan 0

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — Senior captain Sarah McCarthy recorded a career-high 17 saves and first-year Caroline Bogue scored the game-winning goal to lead Bates to a 1-0 vicotry over Wesleyan Univeristy Saturday.

The Cardinals (3-2-1) outshot Bates 32-10 on the day, but their defense held strong throught the match.

The Bobcats (4-1) struck in the 82nd minute when on a corner kick opportunity, junior Olivia Amdur delivered a perfect ball that Bogue headed directly into the net.

College field hockey

Bates 4, Wesleyan 2

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — Junior Taylor Lough tallied a pair of goals as Bates won its third consecutive game with a 4-2 victory over Wesleyan University in field hockey action Saturday afternoon.

In the 59th minute, sophomore Victoria McGee extended the Bobcat lead to 3-1 with her second goal of the season.

Sophomore Alyssa Souza and junior Adelae Durand split time in goal, with Durand playing in the first half and Souza picking up the win by playing the second half. They made two saves apiece for Bates.

Wesleyan 4, Bates 2

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — Sophomore Antonio Heredia found the back of the net for the first time in his Bates career, and sophomore Peder Bakken scored as well in a 4-2 loss to Wesleyan Univeristy in men’s soccer action Saturday afternoon.

With the score tied at two in the 83rd minute, the Cardinals (5-1) scored on a Mauricio Bailleres goal that was drilled into the left side of the net.

Komar Martinez-Paiz added an insurance goal in the 90th minute with a bullet from straight on.

Goalie junior Robbie Montanaro matched his season-high with nine saves for Bates.
