As a resident of Auburn for most of my life, I feel compelled to write about the upcoming merger vote.
From what I have read and heard, some citizens from both cities worry that schools would face major changes that would severely impact traditions and loyalties. I was pleased to learn that the merger would not change the location of schools, the teachers or the schools’ traditions or local identities. ELHS and LHS would still have their separate names, staffs, teams, extracurricular programs, bands, yearbooks and clubs. It would be the same for middle and elementary schools.
To eliminate duplication, there would be some changes in school administration. That would result in savings that could be used to improve education for all the students.
That is a goal I believe everyone can share, no matter which side of the river we call home.
I vote for One LA.
