Police say 40-year-old Breanne Hewins of Jay lost control of her motorcycle and struck a telephone pole around 8:30 a.m. Monday.
LIVERMORE FALLS — A Jay woman was killed Monday morning when she lost control of the motorcycle she was driving and hit a utility pole on Main Street/Route 4, police Chief Ernest Steward Jr. said Monday afternoon.
Breanne Hewins, 40, was heading north, apparently speeding, when she lost control near the former Ben’s Variety, near the Jay line, and came around the curve and went straight into the pole. The impact split the pole and cut the motorcycle in half, Steward said.
The front of the motorcycle went onto the railroad bed while the back half stayed near the pole, Steward said.
Hewins was driving a 2016 Harley-Davidson. She was not wearing a helmet; she was wearing a bomber hat. She died at the scene.
The accident occurred about 8:30 a.m. Jay police arrived first and secured the scene and started an investigation until Livermore Falls police arrived.
