PARIS — A Norway man was sentenced Thursday to 10 years in prison with all but 4½ years suspended in Oxford County Superior Court for two separate incidences of trafficking heroin.
Jacolby Morrison, 19, pleaded guilty on Thursday to felony aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs and one Class B count of unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs.
Assistant Attorney General David Fisher said the state’s recommendation was for Morrison to serve concurrent sentences of 10 years, with all but 4½ years suspended, and three years of probation, during which he will be subject to random search and testing and be prohibited from using or possessing illegal drugs.
Morrison was one of four people arrested in June 2016 in connection to the death of Cassidy Patten, 18, of Harrison, who overdosed in September 2015.
Authorities said she died of acute intoxication of a combination of heroin and morphine, and that she had been dropped off at the emergency room of Central Maine Medical Center by people who didn’t identify themselves.
Agents with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency discovered that Morrison and several other people had been bringing in heroin from Massachusetts and distributing it in Maine.
After obtaining a search warrant, authorities said they searched an apartment at 235 High St. and seized 80 grams, or 800 doses, of heroin, with an approximate street value of $12,000, as well as scales, packaging materials and $1,600 of suspected drug money.
Shortly after delivering the sentence, Active-Retired Justice Robert Clifford urged Morrison to make use of his time in prison.
“I wish you good luck, Mr. Morrison,” Clifford said. “You have a long way ahead of you, but you’re still a young man.”
