LIVERMORE FALLS — Organizers were pleased with the turnout at the annual Apple Pumpkin Festival at Livermore Falls Recreation Field on Saturday.
“It’s a pretty good day. Lots of people here with more than 40 vendors. I’m excited. It’s not raining,” Jay, Livermore, Livermore Falls Chamber of Commerce Administrative Assistant Christine Fournier said.
The festival is sponsored by the chamber. It is held the last Saturday of September.
Lines of children could be seen waiting for their turn at the rock climbing wall and the giant tiger slide.
A changing table/nursing area and free activities for younger children were provided by Mothers Of Pre-Schoolers (MOPS). Children could play with rice, Duplos, a wooden train and track system, Play-Doh, or a chalkboard. Juice packs, crackers and fruit pouches were handed out.
Adults visited booths featuring Scentsy products, sandals, candles, clothing, jewelry, home decor and agricultural products. Others enjoyed the musical performances.
Root beer floats, snow cones, cotton candy and other food items were sold by local nonprofits, school and sports groups.
Robotic teams from Mt. Blue and Spruce Mountain high schools showed off their robots’ proficiency. The latter also had a hovercraft, made from a leaf blower, that children enjoyed riding.
“Spruce and us, we’re not competitive. We work together. They and Messalonski have helped us a lot,” Mt. Blue adviser Richard Wilde said.
Cindy Stevens of Wilton watched as Henry Reed of Farmington was pushed back and forth in the hovercraft chair by Jonathan Brenner and Matt Nichols. Tanna Herlihy made sure the cord didn’t get caught underneath.
“Those boys are doing a great job,” Stevens said.
Chamber Chairman Kim Turner said attendance had been very steady throughout the day. Children were super excited for the tiger slide and rock climbing.
“I’m amazed to have so many vendors,” Turner said. “Hats off to the committee that put this together. It’s not easy.”
