BETHEL — The Western Mountains Senior College is offering a series of programs around the theme of heritage and family stories. All are free and open to the public.

Marcel Polak, whose family immigrated to the U.S. when he was 4, will present a Down Home Maine program from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, at McLaughlin Auditorium, Gould Academy. Through his family stories of the 20th century in Poland, Romania, France and Germany, he will provide a history of immigration from Europe to the U.S.

A follow-up (but stand-alone) discussion, “Ethnicities: What’s Your Family’s Story,” will be the Brown Bag Lunch program from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, at the Bethel Inn Library. Participants will share stories of family immigration and other family histories. Bring artifacts and lunch.

Continuing the theme, the November Brown Bag Lunch program will be a shared heritage potluck from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, at the Moses Mason House. Participants should bring a dish to share, representing their family’s heritage.

Anna Sysko, DiCocoa’s Restaurant, will prepare some things she learned from her Lithuanian and Polish grandparents and will comment on one or more of the dishes at the event. Participants may call Sysko ahead of the event for suggestions on a representative meal at 207-450-2344.
