RUMFORD — Hundreds of people, many in costume, attended the sixth annual River Valley Pumpkin Festival on Saturday.
Terrific fall weather enhanced the event, with youngsters in costume trick-or-treating up and down Congress Street.
Activities included a pirate bounce house, a two-lane inflatable obstacle course, EB’s Farm petting zoo, pony rides and children’s games.
Vendors along Congress Street sponsored events such as a whoopie-pie-eating contest, a seed-spitting contest, a dog-and-puppy-costume contest and a tug-of-war.
The evening included the lighting of the hundreds of pumpkins carved during the day, followed by a 20-minute fireworks show launched from the Hartford Bridge, viewed by hundreds of people from Canal Street and other areas in the downtown.
A street dance with live music from Outsiders & Skosh concluded the festivities.
The festival was hosted by Gaskyl Productions, with support from EnvisionRumford.
