AUBURN — Barbara Norcross Mushlit, 77, of Monmouth, passed away on Friday, Oct. 20, at the Hospice House in Auburn, with her loving family by her side.
She was born in Augusta on Sept. 7, 1940, the daughter of Constance and Donald Norcross. Barbara was a 1958 graduate and devoted alumnus of Edward Little High School. After graduation she continued her education at the Auburn Maine School of Commerce.
On July 22, 1967, she married Ed Mushlit. They settled in Auburn, where they raised their family and where Barbara was actively involved in many organizations, including the YWCA, Y Wives, Auburn Suburban Little League, the United Way, Literacy Volunteers of America, and she thoroughly enjoyed her time as a member of the Red Hat Society.
For more than 40 years, she worked as the office manager for Harriman Associates, retiring in 2004.
After her retirement, she enjoyed wintering in Florida with her husband, Ed, and many of their Maine friends. Last September, she and her husband, Ed, took their dream trip out West visiting nine states and many national parks and monuments.
Barbara loved attending her grandsons’ and great-nephews’ sporting events, reading, watching the Red Sox and playing Scrabble with her grandson, Josh. Her devotion to her family was steadfast. Time spent with family and friends was her greatest joy. Her home was always open and gatherings were frequent. Barbara’s commitment to bringing her loved ones together will be her greatest legacy.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Ed, of 50 years; as well as her son, Erik Mushlit; daughter, Elisabeth Holland and her husband, Michael; grandsons, Josh Holland and Jonathan and Nathan Mushlit; brothers, Richard Norcross and wife, MaryAnn and Robert Norcross and wife, Cheryl; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents, Donald and Constance Norcross.
Her family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Androscoggin Home Health Care and Hospice, the Hospice House and to all of her wonderful friends who provided care, comfort and support in her final days.
