MEDFORD, Mass. — The Bates men’s soccer team fell in the NESCAC quarterfinals to No. 4 nationally ranked Tufts, 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Tufts’ first goal came when Sterling Weatherbie headed one in off a bounce in the 21st minute. Conor Coleman and Travis Van Brewer provided assists.
The Jumbos (13-1-2) added to their lead in the 67th and 69th minutes to cement the win.
The Bobcats (8-6-2) best chance came in the 38th minute when sophomore Antonio Heredia sent a free kick in from just past half field that slipped through the keeper’s fingers and bounced just to the left of the Jumbo net.
Junior goalie Robbie Montanaro made five saves between the pipes for Bates.
Field hockey
Middlebury 4, Bates 1
MIDDLEBURY, Vt.— Junior Taylor Lough scored her team-leading 10th goal of the season, but the No. 20 nationally ranked Bates field hockey team fell 4-1 to No. 2 Middlebury in the quarterfinals of the NESCAC Champsionships Saturday afternoon.
Grace Jennings scored twice for the Panthers (14-2), including the eventual game-winner in the 32nd minute.
Down 2-0 at the half, the Bobcats (9-7) cut the deficit to one in the 52nd minute. Lough carried the ball into the shooting area and pushed a shot inside the left post.
Junior goalie Adelae Durand made five stops for Bates, while goalie Abby Furdak made a pair of saves to earn the win in net for Middlebury.
Volleyball
Bates 3, Trinity 0
HARTFORD, Conn. — The Bates volleyball team defeated Trinity 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-14) to conclude the regular season in the Bobcats’ final tune-up for the NESCAC tournament.
The Bobcats (12-13) were paced by freshman Delaney Mayfield, freshman Angel Echipue and sophomore Taylor Stafford-Smith on the attack. The trio combined for 20 kills, with Stafford-Smith and Echipue tallying seven kills each.
Sophomore Jordan Camarillo had a game-high four aces for the Bobcats, while sophomore Gabi Eustache finished with 17 digs, and senior captain Jacqueline Forney had 18 assists and nine digs.
Women’s basketball
CMCC 84, University of New Brunswick-Saint John 63
AUBURN — Alex Bessey paced the Mustangs with 19 points in their 84-63 victory over the University of New Brunswick-Saint John.
Jordyn Reynolds had 13 points and 10 rebounds for CMCC (1-0) while her sister Brooke Reynolds chipped in with 10 points .
Kelsey Simon was UNB-Saint John’s leading scorer with 13 points.
