JAY — Voters are being asked Tuesday, Nov. 7, to consider using $1,663.42 from the undesignated fund to pay for Jay’s remaining share to support a greater Franklin County broadband planning study.
The polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Community Building.
The Opportunity Center of North Franklin County began a grassroots effort this year to expand broadband access throughout the county and Livermore Falls. The organization received a $43,000 grant from ConnectME Authority and county commissioners designated $58,000 from the county’s tax-increment financing agreement. The municipalities have been asked as a whole to fund $20,000 for the study based on road miles.
The full amount requested from Jay is $1,913.42. Selectpersons previously agreed to use $250 from the board’s contingency funds toward the broadband initiative. They left it up to voters to decide on funding the remaining $1,663.42 to help support the planning study to determine where high-speed internet services are lacking or need to be improved.
