HEBRON — Karen Wrentzel, 34, was killed Saturday, Oct. 28, in Hebron.
She was born in Lewiston on March 13, 1983, and grew up in Auburn. She started cooking at Mac’s Grill as a teenager, and except for a few months at J.F. Murphy homes as a caretaker and some other minor jobs, had been cooking ever since.
Karen never liked to stay in one place for long and has lived all over the state, including Whitefield, Jefferson, The Forks, and had recently moved back to Hebron from Palermo.
She went with friends to Montana one winter to work at Big Sky, stayed for a couple of years, came back, then drove herself back out again and spent a year at Glacier National Park.
Karen was a passionate lover of books and music of all types, an avid skier, and loved being OUTSIDE. She had been a registered Maine whitewater guide while at Three Rivers in The Forks. She loved life, and lived it fearlessly.
She is survived by her father, Stephen Wrentzel of Auburn; mother and stepfather, Debbie and Perry Morin, of Lewiston; her brother, Jeremy Wrentzel of Auburn; grandmother, Beverly Spofford; uncles Matt, Jon (and Nicole) and Tom Spofford; and aunt, Lishia (and Jerry) Cochran. Also, her cousins whom she loved dearly; her best friend, Sarah Ziehm; her boyfriend, Kyle Logan; her cat, Shota; and many, many other friends and relatives. She was predeceased by her grandparents, Richard and Mary Wrentzel and Dennis Spofford; and her aunt, Elaine Wrentzel.
Karen, we’re all going to miss you. Hope you’ve found that damn fine cup of coffee!
