LEWISTON — Rebecca M. Howard, 74, of Lewiston, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 29, at D’Youville Pavilion with her family by her side. She was born in Hickory, North Carolina on Dec. 3, 1942, to the late James Burch Jr. and Alice Burch. On March 18, 1966, she married Elmer Howard in Cherokee County, N.C. Soon thereafter they moved to Maine where they worked and raised their family. Rebecca was a dedicated and loving nurse who had a great gift of being able to care for the elderly. She worked at D’Youville Pavilion for over 23 years where she loved sharing that gift with her patients. Although she was a very serious caregiver, she was also known as quite the prankster who always enjoyed pulling off a good joke on someone she knew. She worked hard for her family at home and her family at D’Youville and she was dearly loved by both. Rebecca is survived by six children, James Sweetser and wife, Stephanie, Joyce Breton, Thomas Walton and wife, Hyon, Elmer Joseph Howard and wife, Margaret, Elmer James Howard Jr. and Penny Magcalas and husband, Roemi; four siblings, Butch Burch, Richard Burch, Nancy Crooks and Marion McGalliard; nine grandchildren, Tommy, Hylie, Matthew, Ashley, Cassandra, Donavan, India, Jonroe, and Lilo; and seven great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Elmer; her son-in-law, Mark Breton; and her twin brother, Ronald Burch. You are invited to offer your condolences and share fond memories with the family by visiting Rebecca’s guestbook at www.thefortingrouplewiston.com.
