RUMFORD — Doris Louise (Burt) Swett passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 1, at her home.
Doris was born on July 14, 1931, in Rumford. She was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, friend, and most importantly, grandmother. She was assistant manager and then manager of Duffy’s Store in Rumford for many years, before beginning her career as a real estate broker with Lamp Post Real Estate.
She volunteered at Grams, belonged to the VFW, American Legion, Snowshoe Club, Red Hats of Western Maine and her Wednesday ladies group.
She was predeceased by her parents; three sisters; husband, Forest Swett; her grandson, Paul Nowak; and her beloved companion, Lucien Arsenault.
She is survived by her brother, Charles Burt; her daughter, Ruth Ann Nowak and her husband, Raymond; Lucien’s niece, Bertha Kelley and her husband, Nick; sister-in-law, Shirley Swett; many dear friends; and her greatest treasure, her grandson, Joseph Nowak, with whom she shared many adventures and a passion for Legos and snowmen.
If you would like to honor Doris’ amazing spunk and zest for life, take an early morning walk, talk with everyone you meet, be always on the lookout for four-leaf clovers, take someone fishing, have a piece of chocolate, be a secret Santa, read a book and enjoy every day just as she did!
