LEEDS — The Sandy River Ramblers, Maine’s celebrated bluegrass band, will perform at the Leeds Historical Society’s fall fundraiser at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11.
The public is invited, and proceeds will go toward the ongoing renovation of the Leeds History Center and the preservation of the Historical Society’s collection.
The Sandy River Ramblers is the only band in Maine that has a large repertoire of songs specifically about Maine. Many of the songs are written by Stan Keach, the band’s front man, co-lead singer and guitarist.
The Sandy River Ramblers are Maine’s second oldest running bluegrass band, having been around since the mid-1980s. They are known for their close harmonies and acoustic instrumentals. Band members include Keach, Bud Godsoe playing banjo, Dan Simons on the mandolin, Finn Woodruff playing the fiddle, Dana Reynolds on percussion, and Julie Davenport on upright bass.
Keach, Reynolds and Davenport are the featured vocalists. “Julie is one of the best singers — any genre — in Maine,” says Keach. “It’s kind of a secret, but our fans know.”
The concert will be held at the Leeds Community Church, 123 Church Hill Road. Dessert will be available at intermission. Tickets will be available at the door. Suggested donation is $10 for adults, children under 12 free.
