Society museum closes for winter

Discover Girl Scouts events
MEXICO — Girl Scouts of Maine has announced that it will host Discover Girl Scouts events for potential members aged kindergarten through third grade, caregivers and volunteers at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, at Meroby Elementary School, 21 Cross St.

Texas Hold’Em poker Dec. 1
PARIS — The AMVETS monthly Texas Hold’Em poker tournaments are held at from 5 p.m. to midnight on the first Friday of the month at the American Legion Hall.
The event is open to the public. The Auxiliary will have a food concession open from 5 p.m. until the end of second break. There will also be a 50/50 raffle. Buy-in is usually $50 with a license fee of $5 and an optional $5 High Hand.

Santa’s workshop, children’s party
JAY — The VFW will host Santa’s Workshop and Children’s Christmas Party from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at the hall on the corner of Jewell Street and Route 133.
Children’s Christmas shopping day
AVON — The annual children’s Christmas shopping day for the Phillips, Avon and Madrid area will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at the Avon Townhouse.
Children should bring a list of the people and ages or relationship in their immediate family, and Santa’s elves will assist them in shopping. Parents should be prepared to wait since all the gifts will be wrapped for the child. Each gift is 25 cents.
Santa and Mrs. Claus will be present, so parents should bring cameras.
The Phillips Community Church, UCC, is sponsoring this event.
