AUBURN — Honorable Carroll E. Minkowsky, 84, of Monmouth, passed away at Hospice House in Auburn on Saturday, Nov. 25, surrounded by his loving family.

Carroll was born Jan. 7, 1933, in Lewiston, a son of Carroll and Catherine (Bergin) Minkowsky. He graduated from Lewiston High School in 1951, where he met his high school sweetheart, Muriel Canuel. On May 9, 1953, Carroll and Muriel married at Holy Family Church in Lewiston. They had six children and created an incredible family over the 64 years they shared together.

Carroll enlisted in the United States Coast Guard on June 19, 1951, and served during the Korean Conflict aboard the USCG Barataria, where he patrolled the North Atlantic. He completed his service in March of 1954.

In 1966, Carroll was elected to the Maine House of Representatives and served two years. From 1968-1984, he served as a Maine state senator. He particularly enjoyed serving as senate co-chair on the Marine Resources Committee, as well as other legislative committees. He was an active member of the Maine Democratic Party on a local, state and national level for 40 years. In addition, he served on the Lewiston Finance Committee and the Police Commission. He was very active in the Small Business Administration SCORE Program, the American Legion, Elks and Toastmasters. He will be remembered for his passionate public service to the people of Maine. He retired from Central Maine Power Company in 1991, and enjoyed a career in real estate afterward.

He is survived by his loving wife, Muriel; son, Steve Minkowsky and his wife, Venise; son, David Minkowsky and his wife, Doris Hemond-Minkowsky; daughter, Ann Minkowsky-Gendreau and her husband, Larry; son, Michael Minkowsky and his wife, Lisa; son, James Minkowsky; daughter, Stacy (Stasia) Minkowsky-St.Onge and her husband, Kevin. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Troy, Scott, Laura, Jamie, Brandon, Candace, Kayla, Emily and Jasmine; seven great-grandchildren, Lavinia, Noah, Karson, Julia, Asia, Jace and Bryce; special additions, Roland, Jennie, Page, Isabella, Elias, Cooper and McKinley; and many nieces, nephews and extended family. He was a devoted family man and loved animals, his John Deere tractor and boating on the ocean and lakes. He will be deeply missed by everyone.
