FARMINGTON — Franklin County commissioners will hold a public hearing at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, at the county courthouse on a proposed $1.13 million budget for the unorganized territory in 2018-19.
Commissioners are required to approve a budget annually by Dec. 31. It is sent to the state for review and approval. If accepted, it will go into effect July 1, 2018.
The spending plan represents an overall increase of $78,007 from the current budget. According to the draft budget information, the majority of the increase is proposed for snow removal. It shows a combined increase of $39,895 to make it $473,746 for Madrid, Langtown and Freeman-Salem townships. Washington-Perkins townships’ budgeted amount remained the same at $65,000.
Other increases include $5,000 more for E911 salary to make it $15,000 because of anticipated addressing work, and $20,000 for reserve accounts. Decreases include $10,184 to lower the waste disposal budget to $117,351 and $4,208 to make the fire protection budget $106,089.
There are slight increases and decreases in other categories as well.
After factoring in anticipated revenues the proposed tax assessment would be $953,395.
The proposed spending package is $28,796 less than the budget approved for 2016-17.
