GREENE — A local man faces multiple counts charging that he sexually abused his girlfriend’s 6-year-old daughter.
Roger E. Hamel, 45, is charged with 15 counts, including charges of unlawful sexual contact, sexual misconduct with a child, unlawful sexual touching and sexual aggression against a child.
Police charge that the sexual offenses occurred between early November 2016 and late January 2017 at Hamel’s home at 643 College Road. At the time, Hamel would often baby-sit the girl while her mother was at work, according to court documents.
According to a police affidavit, the 6-year-old told investigators that Hamel would initiate sexual contact by changing the television from the Disney Channel to pornography.
The girl said Hamel would often ask her to sit on his lap while he was watching “sex on the TV.” The girl told police that on one occasion, when she tried to run out of the room, Hamel grabbed her arm to prevent her from leaving.
The girl told investigators that Hamel was often naked in the living room while watching pornography. On one occasion, the girl told police, Hamel asked her if she’d like to do what the naked men and women were doing on the television.
According to the affidavit, the girl also reported:
• Hamel would kiss her on the lips and would refuse to stop when she protested;
• Hamel would hold her down while he rubbed his privates;
• Hamel would take off his clothes and join the girl when she was taking a shower. While in the shower, Hamel “would take her hand and have her touch his ‘thing;'”
• Hamel would touch the girl’s privates and buttocks with his hands.
Hamel appeared Friday in 8th District Court in Lewiston. Judge Richard Mulhern set bail at $10,000 cash or $5,000 with supervised release. His bail includes the condition that Hamel have no contact with anyone under 18 years old or the victim’s family.
Hamel was not required to enter a plea at the Friday hearing. According to the affidavit, he denied the accusations during interviews with police, suggesting that the girl’s mother had invented the story in retaliation after the couple broke up.
Hamel on Friday night remained at the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn. The case against him was investigated by Androscoggin County Detective Thomas Slivinski. Anyone with information is asked to call 753-2567
