NEWRY — A special town meeting scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, has been postponed. A new date is expected to be set by selectmen at their regular meeting at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
According to town officials, the meeting was not posted seven days beforehand.
The purpose of the meeting is to vote on appropriating $24,500 from undesignated surplus to finance the Withdrawal Committee for remainder for fiscal year 2017-18. The committee has run out of money in its effort to negotiate an agreement with SAD 44. The town had appropriated $50,000 in 2014, but the withdrawal process has not concluded. Negotiations have been in a stalemate.
