LEWISTON — Geneva M. Roy, 71, died Monday, Dec. 18, at home surrounded by her family after a long battle with cancer.

She was born in Daigle on Aug. 25, 1946, to Alcime and Isabelle Madore. Geneva, the second youngest of 12, moved while an infant to the Lewiston area where she spent the rest of her life. There, she met her true love, Gerard L. Roy. They married on May 8, 1965. Gene worked many factory jobs including Knapp Shoes and Fancy Stitchers while making a home and raising three children with Gerry. Gene worked hard and exemplified persistence to finish her education and graduated from Bernard’s School of Cosmetology in 1984. Genie’s Boutique opened in the garage transformed lovingly by Gerry into a beauty parlor the following year. Genie grew a loyal client base with her hard work and caring. She went above and beyond for clients, often the elderly and the sick, visiting them at home when they no longer could travel. Shortly after becoming a hairdresser Genie first battled cancer. She fought hard and continued to put her family and clients first throughout treatment. It was in helping and doing for others that Genie found her strength. Genie and Gerry moved from Sabattus to Lewiston after their nest emptied and built a new home and business where Genie continued to touch the lives of many. Cancer came back in 2014. She took up the battle again, always concerned more with those who relied on her than herself.

Geneva loved gardening, hunting, fishing, playing cards with her sisters, going to camp, and above all spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Gerard, daughter Annette and husband Robie of Bowdoin, daughter Celine of Lewiston, son John and wife Libby of South Portland, five grandchildren; James, Ashley, Meaghan, Brooke and Madolyn, brother Percy Madore, sister Jeanne Corriveau, sister Lenora Pleau, brother Clarence Madore, sister Lucy Gervais, brother Richard Madore, brother Hubert Madore, sister Claudette Comeau, sister Terry Obie, and brother Ronald Madore.

Geneva is predeceased by her parents and sister, Rilda Stevens.

The family would like to extend warmest thanks to Dr. Thomas Hoke, Dr. Nicolette Erickson and Androscoggin Hospice. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Dempsy Center, Lewiston.

Friends and family are invited to share their memories and offer their condolences by visiting Geneva’s online guest book at www.thefortingrouplewiston.com.
