AUBURN — Marie H. Vickery, 95, of Auburn, passed away Monday, Dec. 18, at Clover Manor after a two-year battle with dementia.

She was born Jan. 30, 1922, to William F. and Ada K. Harper at her parents’ home in Durham, Maine. Her mother passed away a few days after her birth. She was raised by her loving grandmother, Lucy A. Harper.

When she turned 5 years old her family moved to Auburn where she spent the rest of her life. In her school years she was known as Lucy.

She graduated from Edward Little High School in 1939 and Bliss College in 1941.

In 1943 she married the love of her life, Frank M. Vickery Jr. (Dint), and they enjoyed 40 years of marriage and happiness.

They raised two boys. After the boys were in school she worked 25 years at Northern Utilities in Lewiston retiring as office manager, taking an early retirement to care for her ailing husband. He died in 1983.

She enjoyed many years of volunteering at CMMC.

She was a former member of St. Catherine’s Guild at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Lewiston, Danville Junction Grange and life member of AMVETS Auxiliary, Post #6 of New Gloucester.

In the first few years after the death of her husband, she lived alone but enjoyed playing cards and other games with her many good friends.

She was predeceased by her parents, her wonderful grandmother, her husband Frank in 1983, her brother Ralph in 2004 and her son John in 2015.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law Brenda in Costa Rica; grandson Carl of Auburn; two granddaughters, Annie of Oxford and Jennifer of Lewiston; three great-grandchildren, Adriana, Keith and Leeann; many nieces and nephews and a son Bill of Poland.
