DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am looking for someone who can make memory items out of a loved one’s fabric such as pillows, Christmas ornaments, or anything that one could have for a keepsake. Please contact me at 320-0324.

— Julie, Livermore

ANSWER: The sky is the limit when it comes to repurposing clothing. I’m sure there are several seamstresses and crafters near you to bring your vision of meaningful keepsakes to reality. Start by going to or calling your local craft/sewing/quilting store to see if they have any recommendations. Oftentimes, craftspeople leave business cards at shops that sell the supplies they use. Readers, if you know of someone in the Livermore area who would be willing to take this project on, please write to Sun Spots!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I accidentally deleted the Dec. 14 episode of Dr. Blake Mysteries from my recorded list. Does anyone have a copy of that show I could borrow? I love it and I think it is the last show of the series. I’m afraid I’ll never find out how it ended.

I know there are four series available on DVD, but I think this was Series Five. Does anyone know for sure? Sun Spots, you are much appreciated.

ANSWER: You’re right; the series finished its fifth season and from what I can gather from online resources, it has been “saved” by Channel 7 and will continue.

You may be able to find the episodes you missed online if you want to sign up through TV Guide or another venue. In the meantime, hopefully someone will write in and share their recorded copy with you.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Every year I somehow collect more calendars than I need. Are there any institutions that could use these? In the past, some of the nursing homes needed them for their residents. I will deliver within Lewiston-Auburn.

ANSWER: Other than residential care facilities, child care centers may want your calendars for crafting projects for their preschoolers. Calendars are a great tool to encourage children to learn the months of the year, days of the week and numbers. If they have interesting pictures, that’s a plus! Readers, please let us know of places that could use these.
