WILTON — Investigators worked Monday to find the cause of a house fire that left six people homeless Saturday, Assistant Fire Chief Kyle Ellis said.
Fire Chief Sonny Dunham and his department, with help from the State Fire Marshal’s Office, were investigating the blaze at 1367 Main St.
“We’re still working on it,” Ellis said.
The large home at the corner of Main and Austin streets in East Wilton is owned by John and Cheryl Malone of Arizona and occupied by two adult sisters and their families.
A mother and two children, whose names were unavailable, made it out safely, Ellis said. The other occupant had just given birth and was at a Lewiston hospital, he said.
The fire started in a bathroom at about 2 p.m. Saturday and spread to the kitchen. Firefighters put it out within 30 minutes. The home could be salvaged but will require work, Dunham told the Sun Journal on Saturday.
The American Red Cross was called Saturday to help six family members.
