LIVERMORE — Selectpersons decided Tuesday night to delay the purchase of a new snowblower and agreed that part-time, on-call help is needed at the transfer station.
The board was made aware of both issues at its last meeting.
The town has four snowblowers. One is used to plow the Route 4 bridge, one at the Town Office and the other two at the transfer station.
Administrative assistant Amy Byron said the one at the Town Office is very old, needs work and is not worth repairing. One of the snowblowers from the transfer station was brought to the Town Office, leaving no spare available there.
“If the one at the transfer station breaks down, we don’t have a back-up plan,” Byron said.
Transfer station superintendent Juanita Jordan-Bryant had suggested using funds from the Oxford County Regional Recycling Corp. to buy one.
Byron said the town will be receiving about $25,000 from OCRR. Selectperson Vice Chairman Mark Chretien said he would prefer to see those funds go back into the transfer station budget.
Byron said shear pins in the snowblower at the transfer station need be replaced. Selectperson Chairman Tom Gould said with winter “about half over,” purchasing a new one can wait.
The board had also been told that current backup help would be unavailable for some time. Byron said one person had left and a potential successor is not available.
“We never built the backup crew up again,” Byron said.
She said the most that person would work is 24 hours a week. The pay is $10 an hour. The position will be posted at the Town Office, transfer station, Guild’s Hardware and on the Maine Municipal Association website.
The transfer station is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. For more information, call the Town Office at 897-3207.
