LEWISTON — Dany Shestakov converted a feed from Tyler Webb at 4:26 of overtime Wednesday to lift the visiting Maine Wild to a 2-1 win over the L/A Nordiques in front of 498 at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee.
The loss is the second in a row for L/A after starting off the new year with a romp over the Northeast Generals.
Starring for the Wild on Wednesday was goalie Benjamin Jenkins, who turned back 43 of the 44 shots he faced to earn his seventh win of the season and even his record at seven wins and seven losses. It was the second strong outing in a row for Jenkins, who allowed only one goal in a loss Sunday.
On the other end, Michael Errico suffered the loss between the pipes, allowing just the two goals on 18 shots.
Jeffrey Gratz got the Wild (14-13-3-1) on the board first in the opening period, tickling the twine just four minutes into the contest with hep from Shestakov and Mason Ledbetter.
After a penalty-free first period, the teams traded minor penalties in the second, but neither team capitalized, nor did either score at all in the period.
In the third, Connor Kennedy netted his seventh goal of the season at 7:39 to draw the Nordiques even at 1-1. Andrew McCormack picked up the helper.
The Nordiques (22-9-2-1) fired 13 shots at Jenkins in the final frame, and another four in the extra session, but couldn’t solve him again.
L/A plays again Saturday on the road against the Northeast Generals, with whom they split last weekend and are in a battle for first place in the division. The Nordiques’ next homestand is Jan. 20 and 21 when they host the Long Beach Sharks at the Colisee.
