AUBURN — Muriel B. Fontaine, 98, formerly of Laurier Street, Lewiston, passed away Saturday morning, Jan. 6, from a short illness at Odd Fellows’ and Rebekahs’ Home in Auburn.

She was born in Lewiston on March 24, 1919, the daughter of Alphonse and Gracia (Picard) Bilodeau. She had two daughters from her first marriage.

She worked as a battery hand and as a table hand, building Jacquard heads for more than 30 years at Bates Manufacturing, retiring at the age of 62. She enjoyed spending family time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

On Jan. 31, 1981, Muriel married Maurice Fontaine Sr. During their time together, they enjoyed taking trips to Florida and California. He passed away March 15, 2008, in Lewiston.

Surviving are her daughters Yvette Taylor and her husband, Donald, of Rindge, N.H.; Doris Remillard and her husband, Roland, of Leeds; her husband’s children: Maurice Fontaine Jr. and his wife, Pauline; Lucille Landry and her husband, Paul; Louise McClure and her husband, Michael, all of Lewiston; grandchildren Cathy Murray and her husband, Kurt; Sharon Taylor and her husband, Jonas August; Michael Remillard; and Steven Remillard and his wife, Tammy; five great-grandchildren: Taylor Murray, Kyle Murray, Krista Murray, Collin Remillard and Eva August. She is also survived by sisters: Gilberte Baril and her husband, Lucien, and Jacqueline Baril and her husband, Fernand; brother, Raymond Bilodeau, and his wife, Carmel; and many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by her family.

Besides her husband, Muriel was predeceased by four sisters: Armande, Juliette, Yvette and Yolande; and four brothers: Raoul, Roger, Joseph, and Valmore.
