WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Willams College, the No. 4 ranked team in Division III basketball, pulled away in the second half to defeat Bates College 79-68 in a NESCAC men’s basketball contest.

James Heskett led the Ephs (12-3, 3-1 NESCAC) with 23 points while Bobby Casey had 19 points and Mike Greenman had 11 points. 

Jeff Spellman led all scorers with 24 points to pace the Bates (8-8, 1-3 NESCAC) offense. Tom Coyne had 12 points while Nick Lynch collected his fourth double-double of the season with 10 points and 12 boards.

Women’s Baketball

Willams 56, Bates 44

LEWISTON — Williams surived a Bates College comeback to defeat the Bobcats 56-44 in a women’s NESCAC basketball game.

Kristin Fechtelkotter went 8-for-9 from the field to lead Williams (10-6, 2-2 NESCAC) with 17 points.

Melanie Binkhorst had 13 points for Bates (6-11, 1-3 NESCAC) while Nina Davenport had 11.

Men’s Hockey

Northeastern 5, Maine 3

BOSTON — Eric Williams and Nolan Stevens each had a goal and an assist to pace Northeastern to 5-3 victory over Maine in a Hockey East contest.

Grant Jozefek, Dylan Sikura and Brandon Hawkins also scored for the Huskies while Adam Gaudette pitched in with two assists. Cayden Primeau made 17 saves in the victory.

Alexis Binner scored his first collegiate goal for the Black Bears while Mitchell Fossier and Nolan Vesey also scored for Maine. Jeremy Swayman made 32 saves in the losing effort.
