NORTH ANSON — Evan Holzworth scored 20 points to help the Cobras (4-7) stave off the Mustangs and earn the MVC win on Tuesday.
Alex Stafford and Dylan Willette scored eight points for Carrabec, with Willette and Holzworth hitting two 3-pointers apiece. Mike Hargraves nabbed 10 rebounds for the Cobras.
Connor Davis scored 12 points and Gabe Martin had 10 for Monmouth (3-8), which nearly rallied back from a 38-26 deficit entering the fourth quarter.
Poland 72, Sacopee Valley 52
POLAND — Tyler Tucci led Poland to a 72-52 shootout win over Sacopee Valley in a Class B South matchup in boys’ basketball Tuesday,
Tucci dropped 30 points including seven 3s as Poland (1-8) earned their first win of the season. Peter Bolduc poured in an additional 13.
McGuire Sawyer also hit seven 3s to lead Sacopee Valley (0-9) with 23. Mike Murphy also chipped in 15 points in the loss.
Boothbay 61, Mountain Valley 59
RUMFORD — After being down six points heading into the fourth, Boothbay powered back to earn the 61-59 victory over Mountain Valley in a boys’ basketball matchup on Tuesday.
Hunter Ames led all scorers with 23 points, while teammate Hunter Crocker chipped in 16 of his own.
Cam Godbois of Mountain Valley (5-6) led his team with 12 points, followed by Jacob Blanchard with 11. Boothbay moves to 7-4 with the win.
Richmond 87, Telstar 56
BETHEL — Richmond exploded out of the gates with a 28-point first quarter and earned a convincing 87-56 win over Telstar in a boys’ basketball matchup in Class C South.
Richmond (9-2) guard Zach Small led the way with 48 points, including four 3s, followed by backcourt teammate Matt Rines’ 15.
Jarret Bean of Telstar (3-9) led his squad with 29 points in the loss. Blake Rothwell also added 17.
Madison 55, Lisbon 42
MADISON — Evan Bess scored 13 points and Max Shibley had nine points and seven offensive rebounds to lead the Bulldogs to the MVC win in Madison.
Jacob Meader added 12 points for Madison (5-7).
D.J. Douglas finished with 19 points for Lisbon (6-5), including four 3-pointers.
Hall-Dale 81, Mt. Abram 45
Ashtyn Abbott scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Bulldogs to the MVC win in Farmingdale.
Alec Byron added 13 points for Hall-Dale (11-0) while Tyler Nadeau had 12 and Jett Boyer 11.
Mt. Abram (1-10) was led by Sam Storer and Nate Luce with 11 points apiece. Dawson Bate was also in double figures with 10.
Temple 51, Buckfield 43
WATERVILLE — Ilija Ivkovic scored a game-high 17 points and the Bereans got contributions from seven different players in a win over the Bucks.
Nikola Kevic added 13 for Temple (5-6).
Zachary Grover scored 15 for Buckfield (4-7).
Girls basketball
Poland 63, Sacopee Valley 23
HIRAM — Poland jumped to an early 21-2 lead in the first quarter and glided to a 63-23 victory over Sacopee Valley in a Class B South girls’ basketball matchup.
Nathalie Theriault led the way for Poland (8-3) with 26 points including seven free throws. Jessica Seeley also poured in 12 in the win.
Brenna Humphrey paced Sacopee with six points, followed by Kylie Day with four.
Temple 32, Buckfield 17
WATERVILLE — Selam Heinrich scored a game-high 11 points to lead the Temple Academy girls basketball team to a 32-17 East/West conference win over Buckfield on Tuesday.
Deleyni Carr aded seven points for the Bereans (6-6).
Buckfield (1-10) was held to just six first-half points.
Boys’ hockey
Gardiner 6, Maran./Win/HD 0
KENTS HILL — Cam Bourassa scored a pair of goals as the Tigers earned their first win of the season in a game completed Tuesday at Bonnefond Ice Arena.
Gardiner (1-5-0) was leading 3-0 late in the second period when the arena lost power on Jan. 8. Sean Michaud, Jake Weston, Arthur Taylor and A.J. Chadwick also scored for Gardiner.
Mt. Ararat/Lisbon/Morse 4, Poland/Leavitt/Oak Hill/Gray-NG 3
BRUNSWICK — Mt. Ararat/Lisbon/Morse senior Sam Alexander’s hard snap shot ricocheted off the end boards over the top of the net, bouncing off Poland/Leavitt/Oak Hill/GNG goaltender Dakota Soucy’s back and into the net late in the third period to give the Eagles a come-from-behind, 4-3 victory over the Kings at Watson Arena on the campus of Bowdoin College on Tuesday.
Eagles netminder Cade Charron made 32 saves, while Noah Austin led the charge with a shorthanded goal and an assist. Freshman Cal Davies and sophomore Jacob Sargent also scored for Mt. Ararat/Lisbon/Morse, which got assists from Owen Kelly, Cam Poisson and Cam Wallace.
Austin Taylor had two goals for the Kings (6-3), as they scored three unanswered goals in the second period to turn a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 lead heading into the third. Soucy made 16 saves in the losing effort.
