FARMINGTON — Franklin County Animal Shelter has announced its Pets of the Week.

Draco, a 1- to 3-year-old American staffy mix, is the Dog of the Week. He’s powerful and playful, a high-energy, super-smart guy who’s still learning leash manners. He’s affectionate and would do well in a home with older kids but without cats or other dogs.

Sluggo and Ash are the Cats of the Week. Both are male, and Sluggo is 1 to 3 years old, and Ash is 3 years old. Both are playful and laid back.

The cats each need homes that will to provide them with a special urinary tract diet to prevent urinary crystals. They do not need to be adopted together, but there cannot be other cats in the household. If Sluggo and Ash consume any other food, they will become sick. The conditions of Sluggo and Ash are not contagious. While shelter staff suspect Ash’s crystals may clear after adoption when he has less stress, Sluggo’s condition is lifelong.

Draco, Sluggo, Ash and other pets may be visited at the shelter from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesdays to Saturdays at 550 Industry Road. Cats and dogs are spayed or neutered prior to adoption and have been vaccinated for rabies, treated for fleas, microchipped and have had nail trims. The shelter also rehomes barn cats, livestock and other pets.
