LEEDS — A pickup truck driven by a Turner man slid into a slow-moving freight train at Routes 219 and 106 early Wednesday morning,
The rented truck owned by U-Haul and driven by Danny Arnold, 47, was moving too fast for the snowy conditions, according to Maine State Police Trooper Nathan Jamo.
The railroad and warning lights had been activated.
Arnold was “in my estimation, going too fast for the road conditions,” Jamo said. “It had been snowing. There was a couple of inches on the ground at that time and his brakes locked up and basically just slid into the train.”
The Pan-Am Railways train was traveling north to Rumford and stopped after the collision about 5 a.m., Jamo said.
The accident stalled traffic for roughly two hours.
