AUBURN — The last time the Edward Little and Lewiston boys’ basketball teams faced off, the Red Eddies’ intensity waned after building a big lead in the first half.

On Friday night, the Eddies were just getting warmed up in the first half of their 73-39 win over the Blue Devils.

Edward Little finished off a 30-0 scoring run in the third, scoring the quarter’s first 16 points to lead 55-16.

“(Coach Mike Adams) told us at halftime not to settle, not to let up,” Red Eddies guard Tyler Morin said. “So we really took that in, and we just kept going.”

Edward Little scored the first 10 points of Friday’s game, but Lewiston chipped away and got within seven points, 16-9, by the end of the first.

The Blue Devils hung around and trailed 25-16 midway through the second quarter.

“We haven’t been able to put the ball in the basket with any ease this year,” Lewiston coach Tim Farrar said. “I think the first 10 minutes of the game we were playing about what we want to do, but they go on a run and it’s really hard for us to answer.”

The Red Eddies scored the last 14 points of the half, and then the first 16 of the second half to pull away and then some.

“I think our pressure was good,” Adams said. “And offensively we took care of the basketball, didn’t turn it over, that’s been a struggle for us. Rebounded better than we have before.”

Hassan Hussein ended the run with a 3-pointer, one of six by Lewiston in the second half.

Farrar said that despite the lopsided scored he had high praise the Blue Devils’ effort.

“I think our kids are still battling, they’re still taking charges, on the floor at the end of the game,” Farrar said. “I just told them I’m proud to be their basketball coach.”

Darby Shea led all scorers with 20 points, including three 3-pointers. Ibn Khalid added 15, Wol Maiwen had 11 and Morin finished with eight. Twelve Red Eddies played in the game, and 10 of them scored.

“It was a good team effort. Not just one person,” Adams said. “We used our strengths well tonight.”

Derek Foy and Khadar Heban topped Lewiston with nine points each, the two of them hitting three 3-pointers apiece.
