BOSTON — On Sunday, Jan. 14th, four members of the Maine Gladiators Tier II Squirt travel hockey team competed in the Boston Bruins TD Bank Mini 3 on 3 tournament at TD Garden in Boston.
The four players first qualified by going undefeated in the Maine tournament a few months ago at the Ice Vault. While in Boston on Sunday, they again went undefeated with two shootout wins and a 4-0 win. Each game was comprised of a three minute non-stop 3 on 3 game and if there was no winner, the boys went into a shootout. After beating teams from around New England, the boys were presented with a miniature Stanley Cup for a skate around the rink and then trophies for their win. Their team will now be engraved on the cup with past winners.
To cap off an amazing day, they were awarded a trip to Tampa, Florida for the NHL All-Star weekend. In Tampa they will represent the Boston Bruins as they compete in a mini 1 on 1 tournament against other kids representing 13 other NHL teams. They will also take part in a street hockey event on Clearwater Beach, visit the NHL All-Star pregame activities, attend the NHL Skills Competition and finally attend the NHL All-Star game.
All of the games were filmed for Bruins Academy and will be shown on NESN’s Bruins Academy and between periods of upcoming Bruins games on NESN.
