LIVERMORE — Firefighters quickly doused a kitchen fire at a home on Norlands Road on Tuesday night, Fire Chief Don Castonguay said Wednesday.

More than 30 firefighters from five departments responded to the call at about 8 p.m., Castonguay said. Flames could be seen in the kitchen when they arrived, he said.

The house is owned by Mike Perry,  who was not home when the fire started, Castonguay said. Three people lived there.

“It was an accidental fire,” he said.

A person was cooking on the stove when the electricity went out and left the house but didn’t shut the stove off. When power was restored the stove came on, igniting the fire, the chief said.

There was smoke and water damage and the house and is not habitable.

Castonguay believed the house was insured.

The occupants stayed with friends Tuesday night.

Livermore firefighters were assisted by departments from Canton, Jay, Livermore Falls and Turner.
