AUBURN — The Auburn Public Library has announced the teen program calendar for February.
Maine Job Corps for teens and new adults, ages 16 to 24: Contact Cathie Gavett of the Maine Job Corps, 207-458-5369, to find out more about the program and who is eligible. She will arrange a mutually convenient time to meet at the library.
Homework Help for Teens: 2:30 to 4 p.m. Thursdays, Feb. 1 and 8, in the Teen Space. Stop by to get help with time management, schedule planning, goal setting and learn how to be successful with homework. This program is for teens in grades 7 to 12 and will include a healthy snack.
Teen Life Skills — Healthy Relationships: 3 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays, Feb. 6, 13 and 27, in the Teen Space. February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. In recognition, schools and teen centers will participate in special activities. Whitney Parrish, Androscoggin County community educator for Safe Voices, will be at APL on these dates for a fun game or activity centered around dating and healthy relationships. There will be snacks, candy and prizes. For teens ages 12 to 18.
Tweens in the Teen Space: noon to 2 p.m. Wednesdays, Feb. 7, 14 and 28, in the Teen Space. Tweens (in sixth grade) are invited to the Teen Space on half-day Wednesdays. There will be crafts or board games available; hang out or get a head start on homework.
Teen Anime Club: 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, in the Androscoggin Community Room. Teens, ages 12 to 18, can drop in to talk about their favorite — or least favorite — manga, watch the week’s selection of anime, and try a hand at drawing characters. The program will include a snack.
Gaming Hour: 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesdays, Feb. 14 and 28, in the Androscoggin Community Room. Take a break from studying and stop by for video games and snacks. There is an Xbox and Wii and a small collection of games. Teens are welcome to bring their favorites, but only those rated T and E. For teens, ages 12 to 18.
SAPARS Drop-In: 3 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, in the Teen Space. Teens can visit with Julia, an advocate from Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Services. Each month, she will meet with teens to discuss the issues important to them, including consent, bullying, sexual assault and harassment, bystander intervention and internet safety. Visits may include question-and-answer, educational videos or activities. All teens ages 12 to 18 are welcome. It will include a snack.
Teens! Matinee Movie — “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory”: 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, in the Androscoggin Community Room. Teens may see a movie during vacation week. For Valentine’s Day, the snack will feature chocolate fondue and dippers. The program is for teens ages 12 to 18.
APL Farmers Market: 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23. All ages are invited to one of the biggest family events of the year. It includes vendors with homegrown and homemade foods and treats, plus live music, animals, crafts, a basket-making demonstration and exhibits as well as a live acoustic performance by Aaron Wardwell and a new exhibit examining Maine folk fiber arts.
The library will be closed on Presidents’ Day, Monday, Feb. 19.
