BUCKFIELD — Alexis Davis drilled a 3-pointer to start overtime and Kennedy Savoy made 3 of 4 free throws in the extra period to lift visiting Valley past Buckfield, 41-39, in girls’ basketball action Monday.
The Cavaliers (6-11) found themselves down 26-11 at halftime, but outscored the Bucks (1-16) 17-3 in the third quarter to draw within one.
Rianna Davis paced the Cavaliers with 13 points, while Alexis Davis scored eight on a pair of 3s and a 2-pointer, and Savoy made six foul shots in her eight-point effort.
Katy Henderson led all scorers with 14 to lead the Bucks. She hit a pair of 3s. Abby Shields pitched in with six.
The difference in the game came down to made free throws. Both teams made 15 field goals, including two 3s each, but the Cavaliers were plus-two at the charity stripe.
Boys’ basketball
Valley 59, Buckfield 50, OT
BUCKFIELD — Valley outscored Buckfield by 10 in the fourth quarter to force overtime, then out-paced the Bucks 11-2 in the extra session to escape with a 59-50 victory in boys’ basketball action Monday.
Josh Brown paced the Cavaliers (13-4) with 19 points, while Keegan Farnham hit five 3-pointers in a 16-point effort and Joey Thomas knocked down three more as part of his 14 points.
Ethan Jackson led the Bucks (9-9) with a game-high 22 points, and Zack Grover added 14.
Valley was down 29-14 at halftime before making a charge in the second half and overtime.
Boys’ hockey
St. Dom’s 4, Cony/Monmouth/Hall-Dale 1
AUBURN — Brothers Mack and Zach Pelletier both scored goals in the first period and host St. Dominic Academy never looked back for a 4-1 victory over Cony/Monmouth/Hall-Dale in Class A North boys’ hockey action at Norway Savings Bank Arena on Monday.
Mack Pelletier scored 1:34 into the game, with assists by Dominic Chasse and Will Fletcher. Younger brother Zach made it 2-0 seven minutes later.
The Rams (7-6-1) cut the lead in half late in the second period. Reed Hopkins found the back of the net off an assist from Cole Lockhart.
Hunter Hughes scored for the Saints (6-6-1) less than seven minutes into the third to make it 3-1, and Fletcher rounded out the scoring with just over three minutes left.
Noah Pratt and Jack Ouellette notched assists for the Saints, who received 34 saves from goalie Gaston Fuksa. Dalton Bowie stopped 24 of 28 shots for the Rams.
Girls’ hockey
Lewiston/Monmouth/Oak Hill 7, Winslow/Gardiner 0
LEWISTON — Grace Dumond netted a hat trick to help lift Lewiston/Monmouth/Oak Hill to a 7-0 victory over Winslow/Gardiner in the KVAC girls’ hockey championship game at Androscoggin Bank Colisee on Monday.
Jordyn Mynahan and Sara Robert both scored in the first period to put the Blue Devils up 2-0 after one, then the Blue Devils came roaring out of the gates in the second. Brie Dube scored 15 seconds in, Dumond scored twice 70 seconds apart before the three-minute mark, and Gemma Landry scored in the final minute of the frame to make it 6-0.
Dumond finished out the scoring and her hat trick in the sixth minute of the third period. Katie Lemieux added three assists, Madison Conley had two, and Dube, Landry and Jaylin Cloutier all had one apiece.
Cassie Demers stopped 23 of 30 shots for the Black Tigers, while Camree St. Hilaire made 15 saves for the Blue Devil shutout.
