LIVERMORE FALLS — Interim Town Manager Stephen J. Gould told selectmen Tuesday that the town will save $1,364 by using regular steel floor drains in the back of the fire station instead of stainless steel ones.

The station renovation is being done by contractor H.E. Callahan of Auburn, which was awarded the contract on its low bid of $585,585.

Callahan proposed three stainless steel floor drains in the back of the fire station, for a total of $7,600. However, after discussions between the contractor and Gould, it was agreed to use regular steel grates, as long as they were painted and coated. This will save $1,364, Gould said.

Originally, he said, there had been a $9,600 request to seal the front office floor. It was also recommended to do a pre-test to see if the sealer would work.

“The flooring company said we may be able to switch to a different type of glue,” Gould said, adding it could save money.

“Hopefully when they’re done with the floor, they’ll seal it quite well,” Selectman Tom Barker said.

Gould said it would cost about $1,400 to seal the back bay floor.

The front roof overhang has been completed for $7,900. Lights have been wired back in.

“My understanding is that the wiring that was put in for the security cameras has been placed and everything’s done as far as that’s concerned,” Gould said.

Regarding a recent meeting at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington regarding regional interest in broadband internet, Gould noted it would cost $36 million to $70 million to supply Franklin County and neighboring parts of Androscoggin County, including Livermore Falls, with broadband.

Selectman Tom Barker wondered how feasible the project would be, because not everyone needs broadband.

“It’s a selling point for your community,” said Dana Cummings, who lives in California and owns property in Livermore Falls. “Where I live, there’s broadband everywhere.”

Gould also announced the town’s last revaluation was in 2001 and assessor Paul Binette told him one should be done every 10 years.

In other business, the board:

• Approved the General Assistance Ordinance; and

• Set their next meeting for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20.
