FARMINGTON — Eli Yeaton led a strong Mt. Blue charge with a first-place finish and he was followed to the line by teammates Sam Smith and Hunter Bolduc as the Cougars held off Edward Little to take the lead after the slalom portion of the KVAC Alpine Skiing Championships at Titcomb Mountain on Saturday.

Mt. Blue’s Jack Kearing finished the scoring for Mt. Blue with a 12th-place finish, giving the Cougars 18 points. Edward Little placed four skiers in the top 10, led by Maxx Bell in fourth, to snag second in the slalom event with 24 points.

Kyle Mooney, Connor Jackson and Leighton Girardin rounded out the EL scoring four.

Oxford Hills’ Jake Mills led the Vikings in eighth position, and the team is in third place, 32 points back of EL.

In the girls’ race, Allison Acritelli of Spruce Mountain edged Caroline Burns of Oxford Hills for the top spot overall, but the skiers each won their respective conference races. Burns was the top KVAC racer, while Acritelli led the MVC.

Edward Little, behind a 10th-place finish from Jordan Cummings, is in third, another 24 points back.

In the MVC, Acritelli led the Phoenix to a large first-day lead over the only other school with enough skiers to score, Mt. Abram. The Roadrunners are 22 points back after the slalom race.

In the MVC boys’ team race, Spruce Mountain holds a slim four-point edge over Mountain Valley. Jacob Paradis led the Phoenix with a third-place finish, while Mtn. Valley’s top skier was Curtis Gauvin in second.
