LEWISTON — Lisa DeSisto, CEO of Sun Media Group and MaineToday Media, will address the Great Falls Forum on Thursday at the Lewiston Public Library.
Her talk is titled, “A Bright Future for Newspapers.”
The program is scheduled for noon to 1 p.m. in Callahan Hall, on the library’s second floor.
While the demise of printed newspapers has been predicted since the dawn of the web, DeSisto will share her vision of why the future for newspapers, particularly in Maine, appears bright but challenging.
She will describe the evolving business model and importance of delivering quality journalism across all platforms.
The Sun Media Group includes the Sun Journal, the Advertiser-Democrat, Franklin Journal, Livermore Falls Advertiser and the Rumford Falls Times and The Forecaster newspapers, among other weeklies.
MaineToday Media includes the Portland Press Herald, Kennebec Journal and Waterville Morning Sentinel, among others.
Before joining MTM in November 2012, DeSisto worked in a variety of leadership positions at the Boston Globe, including chief advertising officer for the Globe and general manager for Boston.com.
She spent most of her career at the Globe as the vice president/general manager of Boston.com, directing the site’s development into the most visited local media website in New England. Before joining the Globe, she held marketing positions at the Boston Phoenix, Boston Magazine and WRKO Radio.
In 2006, DeSisto was named Online Innovator of the Year by the Newspaper Association of America and is the immediate past president of the Maine Press Association.
Admission is free to all Forum events and no reservations are required. This program is a bring-your-own, brown-bag lunch event. Coffee, tea and bottled water will be available at the library.
The Great Falls Forum speaker series is co-sponsored by Bates College, Lewiston Public Library and the Sun Journal.
The Lewiston Public Library is at 200 Lisbon St., at the corner of Pine Street.
