FARMINGTON — Free Beacon Hospice volunteer training will start Thursday, March 1, at the Mt. Blue Adult Education Center. It will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
The seven-week session educates potential volunteers in how to support their community members as they maneuver through end-of-life challenges. Facilitated by a volunteer coordinator with registered nurses, medical social workers and chaplain speakers, the training will show the many hospice volunteer roles.
“Being a hospice volunteer has been an incredibly fulfilling experience for me. Many people comment that it must be depressing, but I enjoy and look forward to my weekly visits. Often just saying ‘hello’ makes the residents’ faces light up. I’m loving being a hospice volunteer,” said Amy Lesko.
“If you are considering being a Beacon Hospice volunteer, don’t hesitate, do it! The offering is simple: to be by one’s side and to listen. The stories, laughter and tears, I’m gaining so much more than I give,” commented Patricia Harrison.
“Hospice volunteering has been a rewarding challenge. It is all about giving of yourself to help others. Doing the little things to make someone else’s days on this earth a little more comfortable during a critical time in their life,” said Dan Pratt.
