JAY — Crews from the Jay Village Water District are searching for a water main break that left customers, including Spruce Mountain Elementary School, without service Monday.

A boil-water order has been issued until further notice, Town Manager Shiloh LaFreniere said in a news release late Monday night.

All customers in the Jay Village Water District north of Subway Restaurant are advised to boil their water, including those on Main Street, Riley Road, Intervale Road, Bridge Street, Smith Street, Stone Street, Oak Street, Bryant Drive, Pinewood Drive, Knoll Circle, Allen Street, Chick A Dee Avenue, Skyline Drive, Belmont Drive, Summit Circle, Lambert Street, Commercial Way, Androscoggin Lane, Jay Plaza Lane and Park Way.

The crew, along with other outside consultants, will be working through the night to try to locate the break and fix any issues they are able to identify, LaFreniere said.

Superintendent Mike Wells said affected customers should boil water for one minute, including water they plan to drink, use to brush their teeth and make ice cubes.

A district representative became aware of a leak at 4 p.m. Sunday. Representatives determined it was between the north side of Subway on Route 4 and its intersection with Route 140.

“The district shares the frustration that everyone feels and will continue to work to restore water as quickly as possible,” the district said in a release.

Scott Greenleaf, superintendent of the Livermore Falls Water District, is also helping. That district supplies water to the Jay district.

Spruce Mountain Elementary School was canceled Monday because there was no water. The neighboring Spruce Mountain middle and high schools had school because the schools are served by the Livermore Falls district.
